AI Joi: AI chat privacy checklist before you begin

Check who runs a chat service, how messages are handled and which personal details to leave out of fictional conversation.

Identify the service you are entering

The privacy rules of a browsing website are not automatically the rules of the chat destination. Look at the address after a conversation button opens. Find the operator’s name, privacy notice, terms and contact method on that service. If those details are unclear, do not assume that a polished interface means the service is private.

This website presents fictional profiles and reading. It does not collect a chat transcript through a conversation form. A destination, hosting provider or installed plugin may have its own data processing. The live operator must explain the actual setup; this article cannot verify an unknown service.

Read beyond the word private

Check whether messages can be retained, reviewed, used to improve a service or shared with processors. Look for retention periods, deletion options and the scope of any account controls. A claim that other visitors cannot see a chat does not answer every question about how the operator handles it.

If a policy is silent or ambiguous, treat that as unknown rather than as a guarantee. Do not confuse encrypted transmission with a promise that no one at the service can access content. Ask the provider for clarification when a detail affects your decision to use it.

Keep a boundary around personal details

Use invented names and settings rather than real addresses, workplace information, passwords, financial details or identifying stories about other people. A fictional harbour or garden gives a conversation texture without requiring your actual location. Avoid uploading material that exposes someone else’s private information.

For example, replace “I live at this address and return home at this time” with “The character returns to an imaginary seaside village.” You preserve the scene while removing information that does not need to be in it. This is a practical habit, not a claim that fictionalization eliminates every privacy risk.

Decide before you disclose

Pause when a request asks for more information than the scene needs. Review account, payment and deletion conditions before agreeing. If you cannot determine how your messages are handled, choose not to submit sensitive content. No fictional persona needs a password or payment-card number to take part in a story.

Read our safety notes and the destination’s own current privacy policy. This checklist is general reading, not legal advice or a security audit. No privacy, anonymity or confidentiality guarantee is made about external services linked from the showcase.
